Real Wedding - Mrs Smith's Rustic Reception

January 09, 2014

How fabulous is this wedding? Who would have thought that hessian could create such a glamorous and grand atmosphere. If you would like to create this look for your wedding visit Mrs Smith's Sell My Wedding Shop, she is selling lots of rustic goodies from her autumn wedding including these hessian table runners, which are available for just £40.

Mrs Smith explained: "Our wedding was held in a Tudor barn in the depths of the Suffolk countryside, where I grew up.  We knew we wanted a relaxed style of wedding and the barn gave us the perfect kind of atmosphere.  We were keen to keep the costs down and found that with our particular venue we just paid for the hire of the barn and organised every other supplier ourselves, so we weren't tied into expensive food and drink suppliers etc.

"We really did have a fairytale wedding - on the day the barn was dressed in fairy lights and drapes with gorgeous flowers we got from a wholesale florist in a selection of mismatching jugs.  It kept the feel of a relaxed and less formal style.

"The venue had long oak tables and benches, so we simply dressed those with hessian runners, then put glass carafes with freesias in them on top.  A few church candles dotted about the place gave it a cosy and warm feel and that was our wedding!

"We hope that another couple will get inspiration from our wedding - we found looking through websites one of our most valuable resources for ideas - magazines were also good - cutting out pictures of stuff we liked to create our wedding style and theme."

Real Wedding - A New Year's Day New York Wedding

January 09, 2014

Here is a sneak peek from the wedding I attended last week in NYC. The day was captured by the fabulous Gabrielle Bower of Images By Gabrielle and I love this shot of Sarah stepping out of her old fashioned New York taxi. It was the same cab used in the film 'When Harry Met Sally' and I got to ride in the back with the bride! How cool is that?

Sarah's hair and makeup was created by the talented Victoria Farr.

I can't wait to see more images, although Sarah is keeping the dress a surprise until after their UK reception in February.

Wedding Inspiration - Old Light Fittings as Wedding Decor

January 08, 2014

I rescued these two dusty light fittings from a friend who was renovating an old house. Rather than send it to the tip I thought it would create a fabulous first impression outside a church or wedding reception. What do you think?

Or how about as a prop to display flowers?

If you think that you could put these two light fittings to good use at your wedding and can collect from the Beverley, East Yorkshire area, then drop me an email. I would love for them to go to a good home.

Real Wedding - Becky's Vintage Affair

January 07, 2014

Our seller's also get chance to tell the story of their wedding to help inspire our buyers and brides-to-be. Here is Becky's story. And the best bit is that if you love this wedding, there are still plenty of bits left to buy to help you create this look...

"Hi, I got married on a very beautiful summers day in August in Burford in the Cotswolds. We have no connection to the Cotswolds being from Yorkshire, but we wanted a idyllic countryside location that would fit into my love for anything floral, lace, whimsical and magical.

"My husband on the other hand asked for skulls and wood to be incorporated - I will leave you to guess what my answer was!!

"I found a old village hall and a church a minute walk away so knew straight away that venue was the one! I loved this village hall as you just hired the hall which was a blank canvas and you (in my case Beau Collections) decorated it all, employed external provider in e.g catering, furniture, DJ. My best friend is a wedding stylist for beau collections so she was my fairy god mother (minus the wings) and helped and inspired me to think outside the box with decor.

"We spent endless hours in her garden shredding old chintzy bedding, curtains, lace and surprisingly old ladies nighties all purchased from my charity shop obsession to make the most beautiful lace garlands!! (I have four of these beauties to sell!!)

"We handmade and styled everything.. My husband made big R&J letters, that stood on top of a piano and had love heart garlands as a back drop. I sourced old trestle tables and lace table runners and spent hours wrapping lace round jars and filling with wild flowers (from Paradise flowers in Wakefield).

"We collected old vintage books and wrapped these with lace. I dotted vintage crockery everywhere and wrapped every beam with fairy lights... It truly looked magical.

"I am selling most things from my wedding and if I'm not selling Beau Collections is hiring it so please look at images and have the most beautiful magical day of your life."

DIY Project - Sequin Hoops

January 06, 2014

These sequin hoops are so easy to make and they will add instant sparkle to your wedding or event. Simply hang from trees or from the ceiling of your venue. Display in clusters using hoops of different sizes to create a dramatic effect.

Would you believe it that this sparkly hoop was actually made from an old Primark bolero. I simply cut a square slightly larger than the embroidery hoop, clipped it in the hoop and then trimmed to fit. Easy peasy! To hang simply add either string or ribbon.

To make you will need:

  • An old sequin top or sequin fabric
  • An embroidery hoop
  • Scissors
  • String or ribbon to hang

Search your local charity shops for sequin tops if you don't have any old ones in your wardrobe. Or visit a haberdashery for material of your choice.

Embroidery hoops come in a range of sizes and can be purchased online, Ebay or from a haberdashery shop.

Or rather than using sequins why not try with doilies or floral fabric.
