Real Wedding - Sarah and Dave's Central Park Wedding

January 05, 2014

I recently had the pleasure of attending a wedding in New York City. The wedding took place in the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park on New Year's Day.

Here is a sneak peak of what I wore. A bronze sequin floor length gown purchased for just £18 from TK Maxx (you gotta love the Maxx) and silver Topshop 'Gwenda' stilettos bought for £5 from Ebay.

DIY Project - Chalkboard Jam Jars

January 04, 2014

If you are planning a rustic wedding and are looking for cheap and cheerful centre pieces that also double as table numbers or names then these will be just perfect. There are also super easy to make thanks to the wonderful invention that is chalkboard paper...

To make you will need:

  • A jam jar. I love the Bonne Mamon jars with the gingham lids
  • Chalkboard adhesive paper. I bought mine from Amazon for £6 for a roll.
  • Chalk or chalkpen
  • Scissors

Simply cut the chalkboard paper into squares (it has a grid on the back so it is easy to get them all the same shape) cut them out and stick them on, and write on a number, easy peasy.

After your wedding you can then use them to store kitchen ingredients or bits and bobs. Or sell them of course.

If you would like a set of these jars but don't want to do the DIY. You can buy a set here.

DIY Project - Confetti Bags

January 03, 2014

These bags of confetti are so easy to make and they would look great displayed in an old basket at your church or ceremony for guests to pick up on their way out.

To make you will need:

  • A pack of brown sandwich bags. I got these ones from Lakeland for £2.50.
  • A pack of doilies. These heart ones were from the Range for just 99p.
  • A bag of confetti or why not make your own using old books, magazines or music paper.
  • A typewriter or set of stamps
  • A mini peg or clip of your choice

Put the doily into the typewriter and type your message. I used 'throw me'.

Fill the brown paper bag with the confetti and then use a hole punch to punch a hole through the bag and doily and then tie with string or ribbon.

Repeat to create as many as you need.

You could also use this idea to make favour bags with the message thank you, or the date of your wedding.

This and That - Three Top Tips For An Affordable Wedding

December 18, 2013

In the aftermath of a recession, us Brits have learnt to be thrifty. We say continue your saving ways with these top tips for an affordable yet beautiful wedding!

Weddings are huge news for all those involved. Whether it's your guests splashing the cash on a brand new outfit and that show-stopping hat, or the age old tradition of the poor bride's family paying for nearly everything, there is no denying weddings are pricey for many if not all partaking in this momentous occasion.

Your wedding day is also supposed to be the best day of your life, but the very thought of money can put a massive strain on you both. Whilst the preparation is one mighty task, sorting out those finances don't have to be such a glum experience. We promise!

Yes, those little extras will start piling up and the search for the perfect wedding dress could end with a massive hole in your wallet. Flowers, guest lists, food and presents all need to be considered and that's not even getting to your bridesmaids. But you can follow some simple savvy tips to not only make your special day even better, but to save you a bit of wonga too...

1. Think Outside The Box

How many weddings have you been to? And how many have been the same experience? By opting for more unconventional options, you could save a tidy sum and have a more unique experience. For example, you needn't spend hundreds of pounds on a three-course dinner for you and your guests in the nearest plush country manor house. We love the idea of hiring out your favourite meals and choosing a more personal location that suits you both down to a tee. We are lucky enough to have wonderful scenery around the British Isles so let's use it! Fish and chips on the seaside anyone?

2. Crafty Cuisine...

When we're searching through the blogposts from Francesco Corallo, we can't help but salivate over the Mediterranean cuisine on offer, and this is a hearty yet frugal style you can adopt for your wedding day! We mentioned the pricey three-course meals on offer, but for many guests (with MANY different taste palettes) it is a safer option to think European. Simple yet tasty buffet style food allows your guests to interact with each other creating a more personal affair.

3. Gain Some Perspective

When it comes to planning your wedding, extravagant thoughts can very much take over. Whilst it's great and perfectly acceptable to be so excited, splashing out can cause you more grief down the line. This is where a sturdy budget can be your new best friend. A great chance to get your super organised loved ones involved and to abuse their talents! Give yourself realistic budgets and stick to them! It's easier said than done, but we're not going to lie, you may feel slightly like a superhero if you can achieve them...
