Thrifty Find - Table number tags

September 11, 2014

Our thrifty Thursday find is these number tags from Ikea which would make perfect table numbers tied to your centrepieces.

I couldn't resist picking up an extra pack to share with a fellow thrifty bride as they were only £1.

So, if you could make use of these table number tags at your wedding let me know. They are free to the first person who contacts me via the listing on Sell My Wedding.

The milk bottle was also just £1 from Ikea. Bargain.

Don't forget you can sell on after your own wedding.

Best wishes,

News - New look for hire listings

September 03, 2014

Back in January when we launched our new website we introduced a new hire feature following feedback from you guys. We have been amazed with the number of our users who, rather than sell the items they so lovingly collected, have decided to keep them however, make a bit of money back by hiring them out.

While you can filter your search to find only the items listed for sale we have just to say added a new feature which clearly states which items are for hire - as we don't want buyers to be disappointed on contacting the seller to find out it is only a hire item.

If you are a newlywed then it costs just £10 to sign up to sell or hire your items - all the money you make is yours. To get started click here.

To browse some of the weddings available to hire check out the links below.

Best wishes,

Safe Selling - Scammer alert

September 02, 2014

We like to name and shame when we become aware of any fraudsters using our site.

We have just been given the heads up about a buyer who goes by the name of Bill Boenderr who is apparently a prolific fraudster. He is targeting online marketplaces and buyers who are selling high value items such as wedding dresses.

If you receive any correspondence from anyone going by this name or if someone wants to buy an item via cheque please ignore the message. If you are in any doubt please contact us at hello@sellmywedding.co.uk and we are more than happy to advise.

Cheque overpayment fraud is when a fraudster pays a business for goods or services by a fraudulent cheque. The cheque is made for a higher than the actual value.

The business reimburses the fraudster with the excess amount of money that was apparently paid to it, before it discovers that the cheque was not genuine. Cheque overpayment fraud is often a method used for goods and services sold through classified adverts.

Many thanks to our seller Alison for going with her gut instinct and notifying us about this.

Just a reminder here are our hints and tips for safe selling

  • We always recommend using PayPal as it protects both parties.
  • Alarm bells should ring if someone offers higher than the asking price.
  • Go with your gut instinct if you think that something is not right than it is probably not a genuine buyer.
  • The majority of our buyers are women - why would a man be buying a wedding dress?
  • Wedding items are very personal and as such there is often lots of lovely dialogue and interaction between the buyer and the seller.

If you are in any doubt please don't hesitate to get in touch. We have a buyer registration process in order to prevent scammers from using the site however some are very persistent. As soon as we become aware that someone is misusing the site they are immediately deleted and we also put out messages via social media naming and shaming.

We can assure you that the majority of our buyers are lovely brides to be.
