Thrifty Find - Mini Pin Wheel Cocktail Sticks

August 24, 2014

Here at Sell My Wedding we love bargains and thrifty finds. So I thought I would share these cute little pin wheel cocktail sticks that I picked up in Asda this weekend - yes Asda. The pack of ten cost just £1.50.

They would be the perfect detail for a seaside themed wedding. Place in bouquets, centrepieces etc etc

I bought them to decorate my cheesecake sandcastle...

Happy bank holiday.

Safe selling - scammer alert

August 14, 2014

We have just been given the heads up about a buyer who goes by the name of Mark Webb who is apparently a prolific fraudster. He is targeting online marketplaces and buyers who are selling high value items such as wedding dresses.

If you receive any correspondence from anyone going by this name or if someone wants to buy an item via cheque please ignore the message. If you are in any doubt please contact us at hello@sellmywedding.co.uk and we are more than happy to advise.

Cheque overpayment fraud is when a fraudster pays a business for goods or services by a fraudulent cheque. The cheque is made for a higher than the actual value.

The business reimburses the fraudster with the excess amount of money that was apparently paid to it, before it discovers that the cheque was not genuine. Cheque overpayment fraud is often a method used for goods and services sold through classified adverts.

Many thanks to our seller Louise for going with her gut instinct and notifying us about this.

Here are our hints and tips for safe selling

  • We always recommend using PayPal as it protects both parties.
  • Alarm bells should ring if someone offers higher than the asking price.
  • Go with your gut instinct if you think that something is not right than it is probably not a genuine buyer.
  • The majority of our buyers are women - why would a man be buying a wedding dress?
  • Wedding items are very personal and as such there is often lots of lovely dialogue and interaction between the buyer and the seller.

If you are in any doubt please don't hesitate to get in touch. We have a buyer registration process in order to prevent scammers from using the site however some are very persistent. As soon as we become aware that someone is misusing the site they are immediately deleted and we also put out messages via social media naming and shaming.

We can assure you that the majority of our buyers are lovely brides to be.

Wedding Inspiration - Wedding bake off!

August 07, 2014

Did you catch the Great British Bake Off last night? Well we just love this idea of having a wedding bake off. If you do too then you are in luck as you can buy this 'Wedding Bake Off' bunting listed for sale for just £15 by Seller Mr and Mrs Naith.

How to create your own wedding bake off

1) First buy the bunting above by Clicking here >> Wedding Cake Off Bunting

2) Ask your guests, via the invitation, information sheet or your website, to bake a cake or sweet treat.

3) Ask guests to let you know if they do plan on bringing something so that you can make personalised cake labels, tags, or mini frames to sit alongside them.

4) Ask your guests to drop off their baked goods at the reception venue on the morning of the wedding.

5) Ask your wedding planner, or venue to essemble the cakes together on table, trolley or vintage dresser, add the bunting, et voila you have a beautiful ready made dessert table (at no cost to you).

6) Introduce the bake off as part of the cake cutting procedures - let the first empty plate or cake stand decide the winner!

7) Crown the winner with a personalised apron, rossette or a bottle of bubbly!

Seller Gabs, displayed all her cakes on vinyl and made cute little frames with their names. Unfortunately the vinyl and frames have already been snapped up but you could collect your own at boots sales or charity shops.

After all that talk of cake. Time for a cuppa I think.

News - We're Three!

July 20, 2014

This weekend we were proud to celebrate three years since our little old site first went live back in July 2011, with just my own wedding items for sale.

Since then, we have grown to become a very active online marketplace and community that currently has over 1100 items for sale.

I must admit that having my own business alongside a day job as a NHS Communications Manager, two boys under five, a dog and (last but not least) a husband, has at times been overwhelming and exhausting however, sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses, and I am taking time to celebrate this milestone and to be proud of Sell My Wedding and how far it has come in just three years.

I remember when I first launched I was told that it takes at least three years to lay the foundations for a web-based business and to create an online presence. So here we are, I think we have a preloved presence...

In January this year, the site underwent a complete overhaul - we actually built a new site from scratch - however this investment has paid off and our site is busier than ever with up to 1000 of you visiting on a single day. I have loved hearing your feedback and still get excited when you let me know you have bought and sold via the site.

Other highlights for us this year include being featured on Boho Weddings, Whimsical Wonderland Weddings and The Frugality (my proudest press accomplishment to date!)

So here's to our fourth year in business. I would like to thank our fantastic community of buyers and sellers, inspiring wedding industry people met along the way (you know who you are), Seegreen our wonderful web company, Emily our social media whizz and last but not least my boys for putting up with me always being on my iPad.

Much love,

Becca x
